Heath & Sherwood (1964) Limited

Background

Heath & Sherwood was founded in 1927 by Clarence Heath and Slim Sherwood, to serve the dual purpose as a diamond drilling contractor and custom equipment manufacturer for clients in the booming Kirkland Lake Gold Camp located in Northern Ontario, Canada.

In 1951, the company was split into two separate entities in order for each to concentrate on their own "core competence" and further expand expertise. Heath & Sherwood Limited, the manufacturing group, began to develop a unique product line and expand upon specialized designs acquired from many years of experience in the mining community.

In 1964, the manufacturing group was sold to Ed Marinigh, Frank Aimone and Ed Mangan, and renamed Heath & Sherwood (1964) Limited. Since the early 1960's the company has continually expanded its various product lines and customer base and now serves the worldwide mining and smelter industries.

In 1997, the company was purchased by the current management team who have confirmed their intentions to continue the long Heath & Sherwood tradition of focusing on providing its customers with the best value solutions for their mineral processing, smelter and custom requirements while providing attractive returns to their investors and employees.

Heath and Sherwood has built a reputation on client service by adapting its' products to specific customer needs. Each project is considered a "Partnering Process" with the customer to insure an appropriate engineered solution is achieved for every installation. The Heath & Sherwood approach results in a rapid return on investment for the customer and insures the corporate objective of building long term relationships based on mutual trust.

Products

Smelter Equipment, consisting of Tuyère line products

Mineral Processing Products, including Automatic Samplers and Sampling Systems, Rod Mill Charging Machines, On-line Moisture Meter and distribution of Wescone Crushers.

Custom Equipment, including the Magnograph®, Non-Destructive Wire Rope Tester and custom machining and fabrication services.

The Company's Tuyère line products emerged from the close contacts and working relationships developed with mining companies such as Noranda, Kennecott and Inco. The traditional method of clearing Tuyère line openings in copper and nickel smelting vessels was an arduous task with operators forced to work in a noisy, dirty and dangerous environment. Noranda Minerals developed the Gaspé Puncher in the early 1960's to mechanize this operation. Heath & Sherwood obtained the license to commercialize the product and today, the Gaspé Puncher and associated Tuyère line developments have been accepted as standard equipment in more than 150 copper and nickel smelters around the world.

Included in the Smelter Equipment line are; Gaspé Puncher, Puncher Automation Packages, Tuyère Assemblies, Noranda Tuyère Pyrometer, Tuyère Silencers and Tuyère Line Refractory Drill. Both standard and custom designs are available.

For over 35 years Heath & Sherwood has been developing and supplying top quality process Samplers and Sampling Systems to the mining and quarrying industries. A variety of samplers for pipes (gravity and pressurized flow), high flow launders, conveyors, chutes, and bulk containers are available. Product Trade names include: ARM® Automated Reference Method Sampler, TMC™ Top Mounted Cutter Sampler, and ICE® Integrated Cutter Enclosure.

The Rod Charger was developed by Heath & Sherwood to safely and efficiently load grinding media into rod mills. Several designs are available to suit customer requirements.

The Magnograph®II Non-Destructive Wire Rope testing instrument for mine-hoist ropes was developed by Noranda and the Canadian Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology and is the state of the art in NDT testing of wire ropes. Heath & Sherwood has the exclusive license to manufacture and market the Magnograph®II.

Wescone Crushers of Australia has recently appointed Heath & Sherwood to distribute its' line of laboratory cone crushers whose unique design eliminates multi stage crushing.
